This is a Pileated Woodpecker and they can create quite the sound when calling or digging into trees for larva. Such a handsome bird. You are lucky to have them in your woods.
Beautiful pictures! Here we do not have snow at the moment and it is much too warm for january. But I am sure that winter will come back - and I am so longing for springtime and garden and flowers.... Hugs, Monika

I got a bit of the white stuff yesterday. Had to drive in it though but made it through the Winter wonderland. Now, it's gone and rainy but it was nice to enjoy for those moments.
