Desert Jewel

Exploring in the Desert continues to offer miles
of hiking trails, wilderness and solitude without having to
venture far from civilization!
My passion for Nature leads me to a desert oasis..
Tonto National forest at the edge of the town of Cave Creek.
A magical forest!
Giant Saguaro cactus and Cottonwood trees..
a protected nature preserve called
"the Jewel of the Desert"
a sparkling stream
certainly the crown jewel!

A lush area along a river bank with
Mesquite and beautiful Cottonwood trees!
With the sound of trickling water I cross over the
makeshift bridge excited knowing that today
great photo opportunities will arise naturally as I enjoy and
observe the water and the many botanical resources it provides!
Am I really in the desert!!

With arms up the giant Saguaro waves so I follow
the Nature Trail
anxious to discover more jewels of this desert!
I'll stand here and wait for you as you cross over..
look what's ahead!

I am told by other hikers that this
Cottonwood tree looks glorious in early January
when it shows off its golden color
before it's leaves drop.
note to self: ..return here next January to see the golden jewel color!

If the beautiful were not in us,
how would we ever recognize it?"

So beautiful, Anna! I did visit part of the Tonto Forest while visiting my daughter a couple of years ago, but we didn't stop to hike. We drove on to a little cafe whose name escapes me right now, but I remember clinging to the car door as Daughter drove through some very scary curving mountain roads:) I do miss seeing Arizona this year! The desert is so different from what I'm used to and such a unique and beautiful place.

Rose: When you return for a visit with your daughter let's plan a hike "together" through this magical forest..March is a perfect time as the Spring flowers are starting to pop out giving this area more jewels to discover!
Hope to see you back in the Sonoran Desert..Ill be waiting.

Your desert world is so unlike my lush mountain and valley world here in West Virginia. Each a different oasis of beauty.
So glad you are enjoying it there. I've scrolled down to see what you've been up to. All so lovely. That's a gorgeous sky a few posts down.
Take Care!

I'm always amazed when I stumble across streams in the desert!

WATERY SATISFACTION

Puddles of water and drops of dew—
What does it take to satisfy you?
A rushing river, a roiling sea—
That’s what it takes to satisfy me!

This does look so beautiful and inviting. Not the same Cave Creek that is near Portal, AZ I assume?
