A Heritage Tree

"Trees are your best antiques"
Alexander Smith
The white Oak
a living relic *250 years old..
a prominent community landmark..
a tree associated with local folklore, myths and legends.

At nearly 5 meters (16 ft.) around and 20 meters high
she is a stately tree!
In the 1800's the immense white oaks filled the area forest
and the town ; Oakville was named in their honour.
Very few of the old oaks remain as a result of filling & milling
for whiskey barrels..one of the towns 1st industries.

I love to visit this tree often..I live near this tree
I feel a connection to this tree..
I stand beneath her and I take in her theraputic energy..
I am on a healing journey..
I hug this tree.
ENLARGE this photo.. feel her power!
::
This tree weathered and survived decades of seasons and storms..
Located in the way of a highway widening city project
a local group of fundraisers saved this historic
250 yr. White Oak.
$343,000 was raised to cover the cost of redesigning the highway
~ around the tree! ~
The Provincial and Local gov't matched the necessary remaining
funds to save this majestic historic White Oak!

In October she bears clusters of sweet acorns..
I gather and am receptive to her gift.
I honor the diverse healings that come to me in so many
different forms in Nature allowing me to
experience serene moments and inner peace.

Celebrating Autumn

Celebrating the end of a season in the garden..
perennials have been cut back garden furniture stored

it's time to gather pumpkins

and create outdoor Autumn vignettes..
fuzzy fountain grass great as container plants together with
flowering kale and mums for a front entrance greeting!

Standing tall a golden pumpkin waits its fate

Celebration with Flowers

Flowers hold within them a degree of symbolism

fragile and ephemeral though they are..

via the language of flowers a great range
of feelings can be expressed

My house is filled with exquisite blooms and arrangements
Last week I was given the deepest sentiments expressed with
bright colored flowers ..

to celebrate my 60th birthday!

Celebrating with flowers, family and friends lifted my spirits
and gave me renewed energy so much so
that my blood count improved
enough for me to have my 4th chemo treatment!
Hurrah 4 down 2 more to go!

Wild Side of Autumn

A crisp Autumn breeze and a breath of fresh air is both
invigorating and calming at the same time.
I walk towards the woods and am greeted by an escort.
Purr-Zzz to you sweet cat I'm heading to the
wild side of Autumn.
I pass by fields of wild flowers..
sunshine yellow Goldenrod
I pause and smile and discover that I am in the company
of Daddy Long legs

See the wonder, beauty and the innocence of
wildflowers ..
walk the wild side of Autumn
::
My photos are my pathway to healing.
Tomorrow I will be receiving my 4th treatment of chemo.
Last week my white blood count was too low to receive
treatment without putting me at risk of infection so I have been
allowing recovery with short nature walks and relaxation.
Taking photos of nature and viewing them encourages my healing!

Silent Autumn

Silent and deserted.. the hush of autumn

Autumn's spell.. time of balmy days and
crisp cool nights

When leaves lose their hold on branches and
swirl to the lawn below

The roses are blooming but silently they move
into their period of dormancy.
As I look around I see the still beauty
in the silence of Autumn.
::
To all my earth angels who have been sending
prayers and messages of encouragement my way..
I say a heartfelt "thank you."
You have indeed contributed to my overall healing and recovery
during my chemotherapy in keeping my spirits up and
touching my heart with your love and concern.
The caustic side effects of chemotherapy has not affected
me too badly. I have no nausea post treatment nor the sudden loss
of all my hair. Getting thin in places but that's OK.
Some days I do feel low but keeping my spirits up is
a major focus of my energies.
I take one day at a time and allow myself to feel a profound
sense of inner peace with meditation, prayer, Reiki sessions,
daily positive affirmations, proper nutrition and exercise
all of which I think are necessary to ensure
progress towards a goal of wellness.
For now I enjoy the full rhythm and beauty of a silent Autumn

Comfort Food

"All of summer they swiftly grew reaching higher up each day
While lovingly we tended them in a careful tender way."
Harvesttime Again by Ruth H. Underhill

Just picked from the vine a taste of summer past..
nature's bounty at it's peak!
A perfect time to gather fresh tomatoes and herbs..
this year we tried cherry and grape tomatoes ever so sweet!

Fresh flavors easy to prepare..
olive oil from our trip last summer to *Tuscany
Parmesan cheese, garlic, tomatoes, and basil..

Comfort food..
is there a more simple pleasure than a plate of
whole wheat pasta with the fresh flavor from the garden!
