Clay Pots and Chicks

Hens-n-Chicks

They grow anywhere.
In gravel,cracks,
between rocks,
a tough little ground cover.
I like to recycle my
broken clay pots
by placing deep
into the soil
and filling with
hens-n-chicks.
My little evergreen rosettes
can be found throughout
my garden!

I don't have any hens and chicks right now, but I have had them in the past. There are several different kinds of these succulents available now, too.

Every year I have to replace my hens and chicks. The squirrels I think (could be one of the night animals) like to feast on them. I just noticed this morning that they have already been munching on this years crop. Oh well I say....thats part of sharing the land with nature and all its animals. I wouldn't change that for anything.

Thanks for stopping by my garden blog and leaving a comment about my toad.

I love the idea of using broken pots for hens and chicks. I will have to try this. Great pictures, BTW.

Hens and chickens always allow me to feel I have a green thumb! I like your idea of the broken pot upside down as a planter!!

What a good idea to do with the cracked pots, and being a cracked pot myself...I like it when beauty comes from brokeness.

I have hen and chicks out back, now I'm going to go check out my old pots.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I really like that square planter. I don't have a lot of clay pots (I think I avoid them because they break, haha), but that is a great idea for using the broken pieces.

I forgot hens and chicks - had them years ago and it's time for new. The broken pot planting is a fine idea!

What a great idea! I've never heard of the saying Hens'n'Chicks before...Just succulents.
Using the broken pots like this is so effective...I might just have to give it a go!
